Beginning this Sunday, March 23, the city uncorks red, white and sparkling wines (along with tons of great food pairings) for the first-ever Philly Wine Week.
The wine-centric fete runs through next Sunday, March 30 and brings dozens and dozens of events to more than 10 participating bars. Participants include Alla Spina, High Street on Market, Barbuzzo, Jet Wine Bar, Osteria and Tria. Throughout the duration of Philly Wine Week learn, taste and sip wines from all over the globe — everywhere from local wineries to Spanish specialties.
For the first days of Wine Week, we’ve compiled a list of our picks for opening events (happenings on Sunday and Monday) and ongoing events that are available for interested vinos most, if not all, days of the event.

• Bubbles & Barrels at Ristorante Panorama: Kick off the inaugural Philly Wine Week with an opening party at Ristorante Panorama at the Penns View Hotel. Sip sparkling wine, champagne, local red and white wine and snack on light bites. Tickets are $40 a person and are available online. A portion of the events proceeds will be donated to the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

• Jura Jaunts Sunday School at Tria Washington Square West: Tria Washington Square West starts its Philly Wine Week festivities with a Sunday wine school session about Jura wines. Made in a region between Burgundy and Switzerland, the distinct wines are made in a cool climate and bring forward notes of both Swiss and Burgundy-made wines. Beginning at noon, Tria is slated to offer glasses of Savagnin “La Pierre,” for just $7 a pop – the beverage is normally priced at $14.50.

• Sherry Pairing Dinner at Jamonera: Bring your appetite to Midtown Village’s Jamonera which is slated to serve up a Sherry Pairing Dinner complete with six sherries and three courses of delicious food. • What Not To Pair at Brauhaus Schmitz: Listen up, chefs and restauranteurs, Brauhaus Schmitz is here to open eyes to the world of wine pairing. Marnie Old, a local wine author and wine instructor, is set to teach guests about unexpected wine and food pairings to take meals to a new level.
When: Monday, March 24, 9-11 p.m.
Where: Brauhaus Schmitz, 718 South Street

• Toast at Ten: From March 23 to 28, the public and Wine Week guests are encouraged to gather at a rotating bar for the “Toast at Ten,” an opportunity for wine buffs to come together and raise a glass. As the name suggests, the toast occurs at 10 p.m. every night of the festival, with the exception of the final two nights of Wine Week. Participating Toast at Ten bars include Barbuzzo, Vintage Wine Bar, Bar Ferdinand and Tashan.

• $5 Wine and Sherry at Alla Spina: During Philly Wine Week, Alla Spina sends out the good stuff on the cheap as it promises guests $5 Karamoor wines and $5 glasses of Sherry. Pair the discounted beverages with some of Alla Spina’s great fare (housemade beer pretzles with spicy cheese, anyone) and you’re good to go.

• Local Lunch at Jet Wine Bar: Graduate Hospital’s Jet Wine Bar dishes out Philly food and local wine during lunch hour from March 24 to 28. Nosh on items like soft pretzels, scrapple, local mushrooms all while sipping wine from a different local brewery each day. Stop by between 11:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. to take advantage of the Philly-centric eats and drinks.

• $20 Wine and Cheese Pairing at Vintage Wine Bar: For just $20, sip three wines and sample three cheeses at Vintage Wine Bar. All days of Philly Wine Week visit the Midtown Village bar for plenty of wine perfectly paired with a variety of cheese.

• In A New York State of Wine Lunch at Tria Taproom: Tria Taproom is here to satisfy all lunch break needs as it hosts In A New York State of Wine Lunch at Tria Taproom. From March 24 to 28, sip New York wines on draft — Gotham Finger Lakes Riesling and Lieb Cellars Pinot Blanc — for just $5 a glass. Pair the wine with the featured all New York cheese plate and call it a day… or, afternoon.
